Showdown #8

Chaos in Showdownville. First let me state that the confusion as when and were we were playing #8 is mostly but not all my fault. My failure to post after we play in a timely manner has become commonplace for me and I apologize for it. I just put things off and then all of a sudden were a few days from playing. That being said our routine has always been 3 weeks from the last time we played unless you hear we cancelled. We also stated that when we cancelled a previous showdown that we would push #8 back to the Final Table date which is posted on this site for March 13th. Everybody should have been aware that we were playing on the 13th. As far as where we were playing really has nothing to do with when we were playing. Chris re-arranged his day to be able to host and quite frankly got jerked around and I apologize to him. Now let me explain the chain of events that led to us cancelling. On Friday morning we were scheduled to play at Schutter's house with a start time of 8pm. This was to give Chris additional time as host to set up. This time was also posted on the site. I received a text from Jeff that he would need a sub and If I could call Darryl Temmell for him. Jeff tried with no success to get a sub on his own. I told him I would be seeing Darryl later that evening and would ask him. I also received a text from Randy and he informed me that Chris Trate would be subbing for him. Friday evening at Mulberry's I asked Darryl if he wanted to play cards for Jeff and he told me he couldn't because he was playing in the Broffe 3 on 3 basketball tourney on Sat night with Chris Trate. I texted Randy and told him that Trate was playing basketball Sat night and couldn't play cards. Randy said he would try and find someone else. Moments later Dave Shope showed up at mulberry's and he told me that he would like to play so Dave Shope was now subbing for Randy. Jeff Kay texted me shortly thereafter and said that he no longer needed a sub and would be playing. So at around 9pm Fri night Randy had a sub and my only concern was if Wayne could get there in time due to him coaching basketball. Later in the evening around 10-11 pm, Trish Kozic showed up and informed me that Rich would be unable to play due to him having to go out of town. I'm not sure if this was a last minute thing or if Rich forgot but Rich was playing as far as I knew up until I found out he wasn't. Shortly after finding out about Rich's inability to play someone ( I cant remember who ) said that they knew that Ron and Phil would not be playing due to a football game. It was at this time that I decided to cancel the showdown. Moments later Ron and Phil walked in and I told them that the showdown was cancelled that other guys couldn't play. I informed Amy Schutter right away so he could tell Chris, I texted Randy, Wayne, Jeff and a few others and posted on the site in the morning that the showdown was postponed. I hoped that with the members I spoke to and posting on the site that all the members would get the message. Obviously some didn't and I'm sorry for that. The major problem we seem to have is that we have members who know there not playing and say nothing and put no effort into getting a sub. I have no problem trying to get a sub for someone but I at least have to know a sub is needed. The showdown would have been squashed earlier in the week if I had known the amount of players that couldn't play. I texted Wayne a few times I think on Thursday or Friday during the day and suggested cancelling when we knew of needing 3 subs. He said with 3 we should still play and so I didn't cancel. Little did I know that more subs were needed.
That's the whole story guys. Moving forward this is what we have to do. Come up with a date for showdown #8. That will finish the season. At that showdown we will have a calender and a date that accommodates everybody will be determined and we will schedule our final table. It doesn't have to be a Saturday night. It can be a Fri night, Sat during the day or Sunday. I will touch base with Wayne today and come up with a couple dates over the next few weeks that work for us. Whatever date accommodates the most players will be the date selected for #8 so please let me know your availability for any of those dates. Also in the event you cant make it and will be getting a sub you need to let either myself or Wayne know asap. My cell is 570-854-7479. If you have texting on your phone then a simple text works for me. Once again sorry for the foul up but as you can see there were many contributors to the chaos that took place Fri night. Lets move on and get the season finished.
Thank You all for your understanding and look forward to the next showdown.

TOURNEY #6

The Saturday Night Showdown never ceases to amaze. At last nights action three things happened. One of the things I was sad to see, one of the things I've never seen and the other thing I thought I'd never see. The thing I was sad to see was showdown member Kevin calling it quits and handing over his seat to Phil. It's great to have Phil in the league but sad to see Kev go. The thing I've never seen actually happened twice last night. The first on saw Chris and myself in an all-in moment with Chris having his whole stack in the pot. Chris turned over A-J while I turned over A-Q. The cards got dealt and I hit an Ace on both the turn and river to K/O Chris. Oh but wait. The wrong deck was used to deal the cards and we had to re-do the flop. My A-Q held up the 2nd time to K/O Chris. Nobody could believe it. Even when there were 2 Ace of Hearts on the board. Wild. Well it happened again with Kevin and Shane. Shane's hand held up both times to K/O Kevin. Unbelievable. The third thing was something I'd never thought I'd see. Randy Keister won. Yes he did! Randy took down the first tourney winning a chip count against me.
The second tourney's final 4 were Randy, Shane, Jeff and myself. Jeff and I made it heads up with Jeff holding about a 2 to 1 chip lead. I called Jeff's all-in with my KQ of diamonds. Jeff had an Ace and hit on the turn to take the pot.
Great night.
The next tourney is set for Feb 20
The host will be Wayne.
Arrive at 6:30!
Cards will be dealt at 7

TOURNEY #6

Tourney #5

First I cant find my sheet from Saturday nights action so pardon me for the delay in updating the site. I know it's in my house because I looked at it the next morning. I'm sure it will turn up and I will then update the points.
The Action:
Tourney #1 saw Shane get back in the winners circle out chipping Rich K. Rich L came in 3rd and I cant remember who came in 4th at the moment. Subs Darryl and Mike played for Jeff and Randy.
Tourney #2 saw Eric take down the win beating sub Darryl Temmel for the top prize. Darryl netted 11 points for Jeff who told me he would sign for 10 prior to the tournament. So a big yahoo for Darryl and his performance.
Tourney #6 is set for the 30th at 6:30. Site to be determined. Stay tuned.
Thats it for now. I will update the points as soon as I find my scoresheet. I hope I didn't flush it down the toilet.

SHOWDOWN #5

The showdown this weekend is cancelled and will be added to the end of the season. The date for the final table will now be showdown #8 and we will determine the final table date during that night.

Showdown #5

Were looking to move showdown #5 from Saturday Dec 12 to Fri Dec11th. Please let either Wayne or myself know if this is good for you. If not Friday then the following Saturday. As for your Wisecrack Mr. Kozic yes I do get to the blog rather quickly when I do cash and I'm not proud to admit it. I usually take extra time when Shane cashes because I have a hard time supressing my nausea for the time it takes to post. I happy to see you taking your wife's advice in not waiting until the final table to collect yourself.

SHOWDOWN #4

The 4th meeting of the Saturday Night Showdown took place at uber host Chris Schutters house on Saturday night. Missing from our group of course was Kasey Lewis. Kasey will remain in our thoughts and our hearts for a long time coming. Kasey's dad Mike Lewis graced our poker league with a poker table that he had built for Kasey. An amazing table would be understating this masterpiece. Schutter had a brass plate made and affixed it to Kasey's permanent seat #1. We thank Mike for the gift and will always think of Kasey and you while playing our tournaments.
On to the nights play. The best part of tournament #1 was watching Shane bust out on the bubble. Always a treat to watch. Hoping to build upon his monster $20 of winnings through 3 Showdowns was last year's cash champ Tom. Tom did ultimately take down the first prize winning the chip count against Jeff. Over at the Kiddie table Wayne and Rich were heads up battling it out. Wayne saw 4 players at the cash table and figured he had some time when all of a sudden they were done and Wayne lost to Rich L. to a chip count.
Tourney #2 got down to the money with chip leader Ronnie leading the way followed by Eric and the shortstacked Shane and Rich L. Shane was forced to go all in as his chips were getting gobbled up by the blinds leaving Ron, Eric and Rich L. Rich was the shorstack but benefited by Eric going all-in on a bluff and being called by Ronnie. This allowed Rich L to backdoor his way to heads up. Rich battled his way back a little and went all-in with pocket 8's. Ron called and flipped over an Ace. Ron hit the Ace on the river and took down the first place prize. No Ace and these two would have been even in chips. Big Hand.
With the nights play Ronnie continues to lead the way in points and cash while the standings shuffled the players up a bit. Super sub filled in admirably for Randy collecting a whopping 4 POINTS! Way to go Phil!!
I will post time and host info for the next showdown shortly.
Thank You

God Bless you Kasey

SHOWDOWN #4

I currently cant find the sheet wayne gave me that has all the results. I know its in my house and I will scour the joint this weekend at which time I will update the points.

SHOWDOWN #2

The Saturday Night Showdown #2 took place saturday night at Tom's house. Play was delayed a little since many of the showdown players played in the St Joe's Golf Tournament. Tourney #1 lasted quite some time. The blinds got up to 300/600 before we split tables. Ron ultimately won a chip count against Rich L with Shane finishing 3rd and Tom 4th. Big hand of the tourney had to be Tom slow playing AA just limping in. Rich L had J 3 and just checked from the big blind. The flop produced 2 threes and Rich had made a set. Tom decided to get aggresive with his aces and got busted out by Rich's set of threes. Any bet from Tom pre flop would have pushed me off that hand and Tom probably finishes in the money. Ron continued his great play with his second win of the season. Over at the kiddie table Eric won the $20 first place.
Tourney #2 got going and moved along a little quicker. Rich, Kevin Eric and Shane made it to the kiddie table that was finally taken down by Shane. At the cash table the final 4 was Kasey, Randy Jeff and Wayne. Wayne busted out in 4th and was followed by Randy. Jeff and Kasey played heads up for quite some time resulting in our first split pot. Jeff and Kasey agreed to split the $210 and play 1 hand for the win. Jeff made a pair of queens while Kasey had sixes. Hand of this match was an all-in by Kasey with A J called by Jeff with K Q. The flop produced a 10 and nothing much else. The turn gave Kasey a J making a pair. An A hit the river and Kasey had made 2 pair not realizing the A made a straight for Jeff. This hand knocked Kasey way down to about 2 or 3 BB in his stack. Kasey doubled up a couple timesand found himself even up again. Thats when these two titans of the felt decided to split the pot.
Great night of cards as always. Next showdown will be at Randy K's house

SHOWDOWN #1

The long awaited start of the 3rd season of the Saturday Night Showdown has come. Season 3 got off with a bang at Waynes house Saturday night. Newcomers Eric Vitunac was at the football game and Tim Hockney was absent as well. Filling in for Eric was none other than Phil the Show Killer. ( ESPN Reference ) Tourney #1 got off to a great start with some of the usual suspects venturing off to the Kiddie Table. Kiddie table King Jeff headed the table along with Kasey, Kevin and Chris. Every time I looked at Chris all I could see was tailgate hangover. This dude is not in the right mental capacity to duel it out with some of the greatest poker players in the world. I mean really, we got players that play Q-J like its pocket Aces and WIN! What a JOKE!! All kidding aside we have a great group of guys and our league runs well because of it. Onto the Cash Table. 2 time defending champ Shane took down the seasons first tourney winning a chip count against Rich K. Wayne and Phil took 3rd and 4th ( that's a JOKE ) while last seasons cash winner Tom busted out on the bubble. Rich K started the season off great with a $50 win. I think I heard through the grapevine that Mrs. K suggested to Rich that he wins some money DURING the poker season and not wait for the final table. I geuss he took her advice.
Tourney #2 saw Rich L, Randy , Phil, Shane and Rich K all make the Kiddie table. Shane took down the $20 prize outlasting Randy in a marathon. Over at the Cash Table Ron hung in there against semi-pro Kasey Lewis to take down his first win since season 1. Kasey is used to playing with the likes of Phil Hellmuth and getting tips from Jackie Chan. Thats a little different that looking across the table at Leroy and listeneing to Randy ramble on about how to play 9-4 offsuit. Anyway Ron took the $130 top prize while Kasey netted $60. Coming in 3rd was the Big Fella Kevin for $40 and gate kid finishing 4th for $30.
Great night of cards with more to follow. The next showdown is set for October 3rd. I will post the host this week.

SHOWDOWN #1

This Saturday night

7PM please be early
First night cost is $75 ( $70 + $5 for new cards )

Monday, August 24, 2009

SEASON 3

Season 3 of the Saturday Night Showdown is upon us. The first showdown will be Sept 12th at 7pm at Wayne's house. We will go over some of the details with the new players as well as bring everybody up to speed regarding changes for the new season. Being that that night is a Penn State home game we'll probably start a little late to give you tailgaters time to arrive. So whats new for the 3rd seaon. First are 2 new players. Tim Hockney and Eric Vitunac. Eric's played with us many times as a sub and Tim hosts his own game at his home in Deerfield. We lost 1 player. Doc Sheldon has relocated to Montana and we wish him well. Hopefully he'll chime into the site from time to time. This means that we'll have 13 players. We will start each tourney with 1 table of 6 and 1 table of 7. The kiddie table will now be 5 seated while the cash table will remain 8. The extra $20 will go into the cash table pot while the kiddie table pot will remain $20. Same rules apply as the previous 2 seasons as well as the points allocated to your finish. Another change for this year will be additional bonus points. They will be as follows:
1 point to the player who knocks out the previous tourneys winner
1 point if you win both tourneys that night.
1 point if your the bounty and you win.
1 point if you rebuy and win
1 point for 3 consecutive cashes
3 points for the last man standing. Last man standing will go to the player who is the last player to appear at the kiddie table. ( That was me last year )

Rebuy's You will be permitted to rebuy during the first 15 minutes of the tournament at any time up to 1500 chips. Last year we allowed 1 rebuy if you got knocked out in the first 15 minutes. You may now rebuy at anytime during the first 15 minutes up to 1500 chips.

Exposed card policy We will discuss a league policy involving exposed cards. We will discuss this the first night and come up with a policy.

That should be it for the changes.
The schedule is as follows:
1 Sept 12
2 Oct 3
3 Oct 24
4 Nov 29
5 Dec 12
6 Jan 9
7 Jan 30
8 Feb 20
Final Table March 13

I did my best to avoid PennState home games and Girls and Boys Basketball. There is only 1 showdown scheduled for a boys BBall game and 1 scheduled for a Girls BBall game and only 1 pennstate home game which just happens to be our opening night. The conflicts should be mim=nimal. Our policy has always been the schedule is the schedule however if an event pops up that a large amount of showdown members must attend we will look into moving the date. Otherwise if you cant attend you are required to get a sub. We dont want any empty seats.

I will continue to post up until Tourney 1.
Stay tuned and I'll see you then.

SHOWDOWN #8

The last showdown went down last night and it probably was our most dramatic showdon yet. Up for grabs was the points cash as well as positioning for the champion points. Once again just like in showdown 7 we had a player who was hanging around in the middle jump up and pull off the double dip. Jeff won twice and put himself right in the mix for overall champion. As of right now the overall champion will come from one of 5 players. Tom, Jeff, Shane, Kasey and myself. We will try and attach some odds to these players before the final table. Shane won the points crown for the 2nd year in a row and will be looking to repeat as champ. The road will be tougher this year .
Onto last nights play.
Tourney #1 saw Jeff take down first place followed by Randy, Tom and Rich K. Rich it seams is gearing up for his usual late season blitz on the felt. Last years final table winner has placed himself right were he was last year. An afterthought but a dangerous one. Tom took 3rd and continued his hot play. The highlight of the tourney of course was Randy. Down to 150 chips ( due to a major mental blunder by Jeff ) rallied and came back to take 2nd. Jeff had thought he put Randy all-in with a 2500 chip bet. We all thought so. It turned out that Randy had Jeff covered by 150 chips and lived to double up several times and get back into it.
Tourney #2 Saw Jeff pull off the not so rare anymore double dip. Hanging in the balance was points standings. This table saw Jeff and Tom heads up. If Tom won he surpassed Rich in points for 2nd place. A Jeff win and Rich holds on for 2nd. A $50 swing. Jeff held on and won while Tom took 2nd. Finishing in 3rd was Shane and "Doc" took 4th.
The showdown format proved that you play till the end. 2 showdowns ago Rich, Shane and Kasey were out in front but the great play of Tom and Jeff made it a 5 man race for overall champ. It should be very dramatic come final table.

Final Table:
We are working on setting a date. Right now it looks like either the last weekend in April or the first weekend in May will be the date. The format for the final table will be posted within a day or two. Cash payouts for the points will be made at the final table. Until that time stay tuned

One more thing. We had to take Louie up to Ken Bergs early today. Louie was having a rough night, couldn't sleep and was whining all night. We had an MRI performed and an Atlantic Equipment ID card was found in Louie's Bowels. Were hoping he will be able to pass it sometime today. If anybody knows of anybody that may have an Atlantic Equipment ID card please let me know so I know were to send the MRI bill along with DR. Bergs fee.

SHOWDOWN #8

Right now it looks like April 3rd, Friday night 7 pm at Rich Loeb's house is the choice over April 10th. Please continue with the input.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

SHOWOWN #7

Showdown #7 took place at the Schutters on Saturday night. All the wives got together and hit the strip while Tom had his way at the felt. Tom pulled off the double dip winning both showdowns. In showdown #1 Tom beat out Wayne and in #2 he held off Me. I geuss it was good that most of the money stayed in the familt last night. Hand of the night had to go to Wayne with Quad 9's. The board had two pair and I had an ace. I felt I had a great shot to at least split the pot. Little did I know Wayne was had the carrot on a stick and won a big pot. The points picture got a little more crowded at the top with Tom's great night. One of the players in the 50's needed a great night while the top 3 stumbled. Well Tom came through as big as you can and Casey and Shane both went home penniless. Only Rich with his second place finish in #2 didn't completely fall. Quirk of the night happened TWICE. In #1 Casey went all in with a short stack just before the rebuy period hoping to either double up or rebuy 1500 chips. Only problem was that he went up against a player he had covered by a couple hundred chips. Casey lost and was severly short stacked and ultimately busted out first. This exact scenario happened again in #2. Casey put up a proposal to allow a rebuy under a certain amount of chips after the first 15 minutes. I think the idea is good but I also think we should finish out this year the way we've been doing it so far. Bring the proposals at our meeting in the off season for Showdown 3.
As for the next and last showdown, April 3rd is out due to the Baseball banquet and the CYO banquet. I would really love for all our members to make the last showdown. I'm putting up 2 dates. April 3rd ( Friday ) and April 10th ( Friday ) . Please let me know if you can make either or. The final table will be the first day we can find that everybody can attend even if it's only 2 weeks later. It's time o wrap it up.
I'll be posting points payout info and Overall Champion scenarious over the next few days so please stay tuned.

SHOWDOWN #7

Wayne and I are trying to set dates for the last 2 showdowns so that everyone can make it. We will be reaching out to the members over the next few days to figure out what times are good. If each member could get in contact with us and let us know the "bad "times for March and April that would help. Were looking at Fri Nights, Sat nights or afternoons and Sunday afternoons. With only 2 showdowns left plus the final table we should be able to get it done.

SHOWDOWN #7

The showdown headed into Frosty Valley's Back Yard at host Rich L's house. Missing tonight were cash and chip leader Kasey and Ron. The showdown beam shone bright over Deerfield and Eric answered the call ala Batman. Eric subbed for Kasey and Ronnie sent the ever intimidating Phil in his stead. Showdown #1 saw Phil, Kevin Doc and Wayne belly up to the Kiddie Table. I really thought Wayne broke through last showdown with his high finishes but tonight wasn't his night. Lots of bad beats and *&$%^&*(#$%*^^^#%%%#@ was heard from table 2. The big fella Kevin cashed at the kiddie table pocketing a cool $20. Over at the big boy table Tom and Jeff built up the sizeable chip stacks with Rich L not to far behind. Jeff probably had the hand of the night going all in against Rick K. Rich had pocket Aces and jeff flipped over A-6. As the tabled awwwwed for Jeff, Rich said all he needed were some sixes. And sixes he got. One on the flop and one on the turn. Jeff took down the pot and he back in it. The table got down to the final 4 with Tom, Jeff, RichL and Shane. Rich busted out Shane and then took a big blow to his stack from Tom. With only 250 chips left Rich doubled up 3 times and was looking to get back into it when Tom hit a card on the river to bust him out. Tom took down the 1st place cash and Jeff placed 2nd.
Tourney #2 saw Phil and Doc make early exits blowing off the kiddie table. Wayne was soon out again and was shortly followed by Jeff. Jeff and Wayne played heads up at he kiddie table and Wayne prevailed for the $20. Over at the Big Boy table Rich K was out in the first hand and was followed by Kevin. Eric and Tom busted next and we were down to 4. Rich L, Shane, Randy and Chris made the money and the hunt for the cash was on. First out was Randy. Rich L busted out Chris and we were down to 2. Shane and Rich L. These 2 traded blinds for about 20 minutes. Rich started to accumulate a small lead. Finally there was ann all-in by Shane and a call by Rich. Rich flipped over A-K to Shanes low suited connectors and Rich took down the Pot. Both Rich and Shane took advantage of the absent Kasey pilling up the points and Cash.
Once again another great night of cards. The next showdown's date is in a bit of question. Due to the skipped week of the Superbowl there seems to be a little confusion as to what the next date should be. Wayne and I will be in touch with everybody to see if we can come up with a good time. Until then stay tuned.

Showdown #6

The 6th showdown is scheduled for Sunday Feb 8th at 3pm.

Monday, January 12, 2009

SHOWDOWN #5

The showdown heade back to the Valley Green development once again as the home of Chris Schutter hosted. Chris put out a fine spread highlighted by some fine jumbalaya. As preparations were being made for this showdown, some of the wives of the showdown players felt that a poker game in the middle of a major snowstorm was foolish. AAAAAGGHH I say. Deal the cards.
Saturday nights play was all about the mighty Casey. Casey stepped up to the plate and most certainley did not strike out. Pulling off the rare double dip, Casey swept the nights action and took home $250 and 21 points. Both SNS records. In the first tourney Rich L took out Leroy and thus winning the bonus point. Following Ron at the kiddie table was Doc, Chris and Eric. Eric was subbing for the absent Kevin. The early action at table #1 was furious as 3 of the top point and money winners were seated at the table. Casey, Shane and Rich L were all at table #1 and the play was hot. Rich couldn't pass up an opportunity to knock out Shane early calling his all-in. Shane nervously sweated out the flop, turn and River to hang on. " I had to take a shot at knocking you out" muttered Rich as Shane raked in his chips. Over at Table #2, Wayne was building quite the stack as he was desperately trying to cash in on the big boy table for the first time. Once Jeff busted out on the bubble the money was on. Casey, Wayne and the 2 Rich's remained. Rich L busted out first as he went all in with A - 10 to Casey's A - 4. Casey got a 3 on the river to make a straight to bust Rich and we were down to 3. Wayne was desperatley trying to take down a big pot from Casey but just couldn't get any action with his big hands. Ultimately Rich K. was done and we were down to a chip count. Casey prevailed and Wayne collected $50 for his 2nd place.
Tourney 2 saw 2 re-buys from table 2 to boost the pot. Busting out first was Tom followed by Doc, Randy, Rich K and Shane. What? Shane at the Kiddie table? Don't say it. Yes. That was the great Shane, Last years champion mired in a 3 week slump finding himself sitting at the jiddie table for the first time. I was watching him play a little at the kidde table and he seemed as interested as 5 year old in a Trigonometry class. Over at the 7 handed money table, Eric had quite a stack follwed by Casey. Rich L. was low stack and went all in on the first hand once again getting rivered by Eric. Ron shortly followed and then Chris the host busted out going home ( upstairs ) empty handed for the night. Jeff collected the $30 4th place and Wayne collected $40 in what was most definately his best night of the season. The monkey is off the back. Casey and Eric battle it out with the Mighty Casey prevailing for he win and double dip. Next showdown Casey will be going for the rare triple play. A feat only achieved by poker legend Shane Reamer. The heat will be on. I hear all the showdown members are privately putting up a secret bounty on Casey to knock him out.
Casey took over as points and cash leader as the stumbling Shane drops into 2nd. Whats wrong with Shane talk has been heard around the water coolers in the office of the SNS.
The next showdown is getting pushed back to Sunday Feb 8th. Time is tbd although I think a later afternoon like 3pm would be better than 6pm. I will post a time after talking to a few players.
Finally all this nonsense from Wayne Saturday night about "Eli" being 2 games from the Hall of Fame needs to come to a halt. I look at Eli as being one David Tyree FLUKE catch away from being just another shlub QB who's team took him to the playoffs. Eli showed what he is against the Eagles. A vastly overrated, mistake prone mediocre QB. Give me Ben, Brees, Rivers, Manning ( the real one ) Brady, Palmer, Warner, McNabb, Rodgers, Pennington, Cutler and real soon Flacco and Ryan before that chump. Giants should be drafting a QB next year.

JAN 31ST SHOWDOWN

We have plenty of time for the Jan 31st showdown. I dont mind moving it to Sunday if Friday conflicts with Danville sports. Either date is good for me. I need everybody to let me know what they think.

DATE CHANGE FOR JAN 31 SHOWDOWN

The #6 showdown slated for Jan 31st is going to be moved to Friday night Jan 30th. The reason is that a large amount of the showdown members will be attending the Danville vs Milton game at Milton that night. Please let me know if this is a problem.
Thank You

SHOWDOWN #4

The Showdown moved across thr river on a rare Sunday night showdown to the humble abode of one Randy Keister. Randy put out a fine spread and the showdown was rollin'. Subbing for Ron was Andrew Shoop. Tourney #1 saw it's first bounty action of the season. We will continue to have a bounty the rest of the way. The bounty in the first tourney fell on the head of Kevin. The player knocking out Kevin would receive a nice Part Poker jacket compliments of Jeff Kay. As we sat down at seperate tables, it didn't take long for Shane to collect the bounty knocking out Kevin. As play continued the kiddie table was joined by Jeff, Andrew and Randy. Over at the Cash table, Wayne was once again trying to get the monkey off his back. 6 for 6 at the cash table and yet no cash. Would this be the night. I thought it was when Wayne beat his good buddy Shane getting a club on the River to make a flush and take down a nice pot. I thought Wayne was on his way at that point. Not so. After I busted out in 8th place Wayne followed me over to the couch to watch some football. Soon after Doc and Rich K found their way to the sofa and we were down to 4. Back from his northern expidition, Kasey cashed out in 4th leaving us with 3. Tom, Shane and Chris played for what seemed like an eternity. Chris finally closed out Tom and took down the first place pot of $130. Taking down the kiddie table was Jeff. He's becoming a pro at that table.
Tourney #2 saw the bounty fall on the head of Randy. Randy was having a tough night so far. First I'm sure he was running around getting ready to host the showdown. Second he went down to a bad beat in the first tourney and now he had a bounty on his head. Yikes. As play started Tom was playing like his house was on fire and busted out first. He thumbed his nose to the kidde table and hit the road. Kevin Jeff and Wayne busted out next forming the first ever 3 handed kiddie table. Heading the Cash table was the young gun Andrew. Andrew had a sizeable chip stack at the cash table while on the other end of the table was myself with a lousy 325 chips. Both myself and Kasey busted out on the first hand of the cash table losing to Doc's trip 10's and we were quickly down to 6. Chris soon followed ending any hopes of a double dip. Out on the bubble was Shane who had a low stack heading into the table but couldn't hang on. The final 4 saw Andrew, Doc, Rich K and tourney host Randy playing for the big pot. Rich busted out first and Randy followed. Itwas good to see Randy end the night on a good note. There's nothing worse than hosting and collecting an egg. ( ask Wayne ). Andrew and Doc battled it out with Andrew finally busting out Doc and collecting $120. The youngster reminded me several days later about his win. During warm-ups at the Varsity basketball game Teusday night, Andrew felt compelled to engage in a little trash talking from the court to my courside seat. I heard something like my cash was burning a hole in his pocket. That's ok kid. Next time we'll send you home in your boxers.
Another great night of cards, food and fun. Were at the halfway point. The points standings are starting to take shape. Shane has built himself an 11 point lead and is looking to repeat as champ. There's still alot of cards left to play and anytghing can happen.
The showdown shuts down for the holidays. I hope everybody has a great holiday and new year. See everybody Jan 10th.

SHOWDOWN #3

Before I report on Showdown #3 I want to let everybody know of a date change for Showdown #4. The original date of Dec 13th will be changed to Sunday Dec 14th at 6pm. The location will be at Randy Kiester's house. I will post directions. Many of the showdown members will not be able to attend on the 13th. We set the schedule and promised to stick by it. One or Two subs each night isn't the end of the world and trying to create a schedule to accomodate 12 players is impossible. That being said we don't want a showdown with half the players being subs. So we will attempt to change the date if many of the players can't attend.
On to the showdown. Tourney #1 started off with a bang as Chris Schutters sub Carl called Wayne's all-in with pocket aces. Unfortunately for carl ( and Chris ) Wayne flopped a set of 8's and took down the pot knocking out Carl. Carl elected not to re-buy ( Schutter obviously didn't provide Carl with the appropriate amount of funds for the evening ) he was soon joined by Kevin, Doc and Tom at the kiddie table. Over at the main table Darrly Temmell ( subbing for the very chilly Kasey ) was running rough shod over the table building up quite the chip stack. Some would say that big D was just getting good cards. I don't know. When D folded out of the big blind needing only to call allowing me to take down the pot I knew I was in for a battle. I'm certain that D was setting us all up for the big fall. The Big Boy table got down to 7 very quickly with Randy busting out. Next on the couch was Wayne followed by Ron and Rich K. Wayne ( yet to cash this season ) has to be feeling a little tight. With each showdown the pressure mounts. Onto the money. Shane busted out in 4th and D took 3rd while Rich l collected 2nd place money. Jeff got his first win of the season and took home the $120 1st place take. Over at the Kiddie table Tom continued his onslaught of the loser with his 3rd kiddie table win. Good job Tom.
Moving on to Tourney #2 busting out early were Rich k, Kevin, Carl and Ron. At the Big Boy table Tom was all excited to get to play for the big bucks. That excitement lasted 1 hand. Gone.
Next out was Big D. Big D did a great job subbing for Kasey collecting 10 points on the night. Next out once again in that 6-7 slot was Wayne. Wayne got rivered and once again went home without some cash. Busting out on the bubble was Rich L. Rich went all-in with K-Q and was called with Randy's A-something. Rich hit a king on the flop but Randy caught a 2 on the river to make a straight and knocking out Rich. Tourney 1 winner Jeff busted out in 4th and Shane took 3rd. ( no wins in 2 weeks, hmmmmm ) That left Randy and Doc to play heads up for the $120. Doc prevailed and collected his first SNS tourney win. Good Job. The one thing about Showdown #3 was the amount of cards hit on the river. There were so many hands made on the river.
Geo Watch. Geo was alerted of Waynes poor showing and hid under the couch. Wayyne was seen looking for something to kick and proceeded to do a number on his golf bag in the garage. How big must the monkey be on his back. The only player left not to cash. He's going to be like a caged beast in 3 weeks.
Another great night and looking foward to #4

POINTS CORRECTION

Sorry for the omission Jeff. Your " super sub " totaled 4 points for you. You have some work to do. The big boy table misses you.

Showdown #2

The Saturday Night Showdown moved it's play to the Schutter sports bar Saturday night. Showing up for the first time was "Doc" Sheldon and last years final table champion Rich Kozic along with the silent assasin Ronnie Raup. Eric Vitunac once again subbed this time for Jeff Kay. The menu for the night was highlighted by a fiery, volcanic concoction that surely put a few showdown members on the late night bowl. I was especially concerned for Kasey Lewis. I think Kasey had about 5 bowls of the plutonium laced stew and may have had multiple visits to the powder room prior to sun-up.
As we move onto the nights action I just have to say that the new format is working out quite well and the adjusted blind structure and chip count I think is right on. Tourney #1 was quite an exciting sporting event. Tournament director Rich L finally got the monkey off his back with a win collecting the $130 first prize. Rich called Kasey's all-in with pocket kings and took down the pot. Rich topped Randy by about 1500 chips to take the chip count and the 10 points that comes with a first place finish. Rounding out the cash table was Rich K in fourth. At the Kiddie table Tom rolled through the table collecting $20 and the bonus point.
Tournay #2 saw a flurrey of action right when the 4th player was out. Two other players busted out and we had a 6 player cash table along with a 6 player kiddie table. In the cash table, tourney #1 winner Rich L. and Wayne had low stacks and went at eachother a few times. Rich caught a 5 on the turn in one hand against Wayne to make a set that saw Wayne just look away in disgust. It just wasn't happening for the Renz boy tonight. One hand that summed up Waynes night was getting quad 7's and taking down a whole 100 chips. Ouch! The cash table continued on with Rich busting out on the bubble. Rich called Shane's all-in needing a spade or a 5 to take down the pot. Shane's 2 pair held up and we were down to 4. Ronnie busted out in 4th and tourney host Chris took 3rd. Play was back and forth until Kasey finally took down the mighty Shane for his first career SNS win. Over at the 6 handed kiddie table there were 2 $20 re-buys resulting in a $60 first place pot. Tom and Eric battled it out to the bitter end with Tom winning again. They decided to split the pot and Tom took the bonus point. After the play Tom, Eric, Rich, Kevin and Chris stayed and watched a thrilling finish to the Texas - Texas Tech game won by Tech. A hidden camera was placed in the bedroom of Rich L. house and he was seen wide eyed staring at the ceiling all night long. There was also a hidden camera placed at the Renz household. We saw a disturbing image of poor little Geo getting an old fashioned whoopin' by some maniac in a black wig. I think Geo should start finding a new hiding place on poker night.
Showdown #3 will be hosted by Tom. Location to be determined. It will be either at Tom's house or possibly at the club. The problem with the club is there is a dress code. While some of us are members and have the proper attire to enter without any fanfare I don't know how the hoity-toity crowd will react to Shane strutting in wearing his rags. I'll bet some of those members may grab hold of their wallets as they watch the Reigning SNS champ walk through their lobby.
As of right now Kasey Lewis will miss showdown #3. He will be up near the Artic Circle ( no shit ) and will need a sub. We will look for him.
See everybody around

Showdown Kicks Off

The 2nd season of the Saturday Night Showdown got underway Saturday night with a bang. New members, a super sub and some familiar faces cashing in highlighted the play. Newcomers, Kevin Brady, Chris Schutter, Kasey Lewis and Randy Keister all brought their unique brand of poker playing to the table while some of the veterans continued their usual stellar play. Tournament #1 saw super sub Eric Vitunac, playing for the absent "Doc" Sheldon absolutely steamroll the competition. "Tuna" Started out at table 2 and carried his chips to the big boy table in several cups. I think it was a ploy to intimidate the players at the big table. Tuna picked up were he left off and rolled to a first place finish beating out Tom Prough. Finishing in 3rd was Shane followed by Chris Schutter. Schutter was down to just a couple of chips at table 2 but managed to rally and cash in for $20. Just missing the cash was Tourney host Wayne who was seen kicking poor Geo in the corner after busting out. Newcomer Kevin and Tournament Director Rich L. finished out the Big Boy table at 6th and 7th place. Over in the dark at the little boy table Jeff Kay took charge to claim the first ever consolation table win. Kay wasted no time in dispatching Randy, Kasey and Ronnie Ray sub Phil.
Tourney #2 saw the first " first to worst" and first re-buy in HTJ history. The Tuna sat down at Table #1 with this big grin on his face only to see his chips vanish like cookies off a dish . Tuna did re-buy and was quickly dispatched by a determined Randy who certainley was looking to avenge his early exit in Tourney #1. Randy held a sizeable chip lead for a while while Rich and Shane lurked behind. After the tables split, Table #1 saw the first great hand of the season. Wayne went all-in and Randy called. After the turn only a Jack could beat Wayne. As the card turned over a thunderous roar was heard upstairs by Mrs. Renz. Mrs. Renz was probably wondering if her husband was part of the wild action. Little did she know that a Jack indeed was turned over and Wayne would exit the nights play collecting a big $0. #+**&&(%^@!##$^%$$%&^*(^%&*^^*(*(& Renz was heard muttering as he ordered people out of his house. As play continued, Rich was accumulating a chunk of chips while Shane hung around as well as Randy. Rich went all-in and Randy called. Rich's A-Q held up to Randy's K-Q and it was down to 2. On the first hand of heads up play Rich had pocket aces and went all in. Shane folded. 2 hands later Rich went all in only hoping to take the blinds with J-4. Unfortunately for the 2nd place kid Shane had pocket aces of his own and took down the pot. All in all it was a great night of fun and a great 2nd season looks like a given.
The next tourney is set for Nov 1st
If you cant make it please let us know.

Season 2

The second season of the Saturday Night Showdown is upon us and with a new season comes some changes. But first let's re-cap our 1st season. Season 1 Champ Shane Reamer dominated the play on many a Saturday night, won the points competition but fell short to the "Professor" Rich Kozic. Reamer will go into the 2nd season a marked man. I've heard some of the showdown players grumbling about Shane's play last year and vowing to "run that squirt out the door" could be heard from one particular boss I mean showdown player. All in all the 1st season was a great success. The showdown worked to perfection as the low money winner ( Kozic ) took home the big pot on the last day. Wayne and I tirelessly worked at creating a competition that could reward the low man on the last day and it did. We also heard the catch phrase " put him on the couch " be introduced to the poker world. I think I heard Phil Laak " The Unabomber " utter the phrase to Phil Ivey in a WPT event. Oh well. Onto season 2.
Some changes are in store for season 2. First I will star with the players. We have 7 returning players from last year and 5 new players this year. The 7 returning players are:
Rich Loeb
Wayne Renz
Jeff Kay
Ron Raup
Tom Prough
Rich Kozic
Shane Reamer
Our new players are:
Kevin Brady
Chris Schutter
Randy Keister
"Doc" Sheldon
Casey Lewis

With the 4 new players our nightly play will be different than last year.
Nightly play will consist of 2 tournaments. Each tournament will have a $20 buy in. We are adding a $20 re-buy only during the first 15 minutes ( first blind amount ) of each tournament. We didn't have many early exits less than 15 minutes last years but if you go out during the first blind amount you may re-buy for $20. Each tournament will start with 2 tables of 6 players. When 4 players are knocked out the 8 remaining players will join at one table, with their chips to finish out the tournament. The 4 players who were knocked out will play a consolation tournament.
Payouts for the 2 tables:
Table 1 ( 8 player table ) :
1st $120
2nd $50
3rd $30
4th $20

Table 2 ( 4 player table ):
1st $20

The first tournament of the night will end when there are 2 players left at which time we will do a chip count. The 2nd tournament will follow the same rules as the 1st tournament except the tournament will be played when 1 player has all the chips.
We will go over chip amounts, blind structure and other details prior to play on the first night.

Points.
The second tier of our competition is the points system. Each tournament that is played will have points awarded to each player based on their play. The following is the points system:
If you finish:
1st 10 points
2nd 8 points
3rd 7 points
4th 6 points
5th 5 points
6th 4 points
7th 3 points
8th 3 points

Consolation Table:
1st 3 points
2nd 2 points
3rd 2 points
4th 2 points

Each tournament these points accumulate and at the end of the last showdown get added up for a final total. Money will be awarded based on these point totals.

The final tier of our competition is the final table. Each week $20 will be collected and put towards the final table. That money along with buy-ins, re-buys and add-ons will fund our final table pot.
Once again we will clear up any questions between now and the first night so everybody understands the rules.
Money needed each night.
Each night you will need to bring $70
the breakdown of the $70 is as follows:
$20 buy in for tourney 1
$20 buy in for tourney 2
$20 deposit towards final table
$10 towards the host for food and drinks.
The host can expect $120 each night to buy food, beer, soda etc for the nights play.
The only exception to this will be the first night which will be $80. The extra $10 will go to me for purchasing 10 decks of cards, automatic card shufflers, blind timers etc.
Every other night will only be $70.

Upcoming schedule:
Here is the schedule for season 2:
1 - Oct 11
2 - Nov 1
3 - Nov 22
4 - Dec 13
5 - Jan 10
6 - Jan 31
7 - Feb 21
8 - March 14
Final Table April 4th

The host for the first night of play will be Wayne Renz
Play begins at 7pm. Please arrive at Wayne's house at 6pm for a rules update.

I will be posting info about our upcoming season frequently now so please check in.
Any questions please call myself or Wayne.

Showdown #6

Another great night of cards. Jeff Kay performed the double dip winning both tourneys and collecting $200 and of course passing go. Kay knocked out Leroy with the game down to 3 players. That left Kay with the chip lead over Rich Loeb who took 2nd for the 4th time this season. The second tourney saw Kay once again reign victorious this time over Tom Graham. Tom is probably home right now trying to figure out how he can take over the points lead next showdown. The next showdown is certainley going to be the bets one yet. With all kinds of points scenarios on the line I'm sure the play will be great.
Stay Tuned for more posts before our final showdown

Sunday, March 9, 2008

SHOWDOWN #5

Sorry for the delay in updating our site but it seems I have something going on every night of the week. The next showdown is going to take place on Saturday night at 7:00 pm at Tom Prough's house. Please check the updated points standings.

Saturday, February 9, 2008

DATE CHANGES

Please check the new dates for the next two showdowns. It seems somebody ( Jeff Kay ) has valentine plans and doesn't want to sleep out on the porch that weekend. Somebody ( Jeff Kay ) has to get his significant other in line like the rest of the showdown members. I'm not going to reveal who the showdown member is ( Jeff Kay ) who can't play valentines weekend because we don't want to cause him ( Jeff Kay ) any unnecessary grief from the SNS.

WORST SUPER BOWL EVER

Now that I've had enough time to take my head out of the toilet bowl after the Giant win, how about a round of applause for yet another mediocre Giant QB winning the Super Bowl. I still say the Giants will be drafting a QB, probably Harry Schmellstein out of Tennessee Chattanooga in the 6th round to replace that garbage can Eli next year. ARRRRGGGHHHHH

SHOWDOWN #4

The fourth Saturday Night Showdown took place Friday night at Rich Loeb's house. Tom G was a no show. Filling in for Tom was the big fella Mr. Kevin T. Brady. Kevin quickly saw the ferocity of the showdown as he was an early exit in both showdowns. I'm sure KTB will be better prepared the next time he enters the dragons lair. Playing with such an accomplished group of losers I mean poker players can be a little intimidating. Look for Big Kev to not only play better the next time but be a regular in the future. One other quick exit was the maven himself Wayne Renz. Renzi's cuz took him down in the first tourney much to the delight of the table and fared no better in tourney #2. " I just wasn't getting the cards tonight " whined Renz as reporters got a quick quote the following morning. " I really think that Shane and Rich are up to something. Were going to have to watch them two" muttered Renz. After Renz found himself on the couch and in a deep sleep ( made evident by the thunderous snoring ) a new phrase was born. A phrase that I feel will catch on and before long the pro players on TV will be shouting out. The phrase Put him on the couch referring to 2 players going all in gathered up some steam as the night wore on. Lets see if " Put him on the couch " becomes a household catch phrase.
Onto the action. The hand that really defined the first tourney was Shane going all in and Rich Loeb calling at the four handed table. Shane turned over a pair of deuces while Rich dropped good 'ol American Airlines on the table. AA. Shane hit a deuce on the river and took a commanding lead at ultimately the cash. That deuce on the river was a little payback for Shane as he had 2 consecutive hands earlier in the tourney were cards were hit on the river to beat him so live by the sword and die by the sword. The tourney ended as 4 players, Shane, Ronnie, Jeff and Rich all went all-in and Rich and Ron got busted finishing in 4th and 3rd and Jef taking 2nd. I thought the first tourney saw some great playing and wild hands.
Tourney #2 Shane was looking for the 4 peat and was well on his way. While not accumulating a big stack he did manage to make it to 3rd and collect $20. The streak of 3 consecutive wins has to be looked upon as a feat that may never be broken. No other player in the history of the Saturday Night Showdown has ever won back to back tourney's let alone 3. Battling it out was the Pro ( Tom that is ) and Leroy Ronnie Ray. Tom had a huge chip lead and it didn't take long to take down the big cash.
Another great night and looking foward to the next one. We have set dates for the next 2 tourneys. Please check your scheduals and let us know if there are any conflicts.

SHOWDOWN SHANE STYLE

The Saturday night showdown had it's 3rd meeting last saturday and anybody not named Shane should have just stayed home. For the first time in SNS history,a clean sweep of the nightly play was accomplished. The Shanester went coast to coast to collect $200 and pass go. We here that shane dropped a little coin on some poker books after the showdown #2 performance. Not a single hand. Shane went home that night like somebody just stole his Mickey Mantle baseball card. Last Saturday Shane was all smiles. "Let's play more" I think I heard. Settle down brother. Lets see what happens next week. It was also nice to see Big Tom Graham get up off the canvas for a $20 take in tourney #1. Tom played some nice hands and showed why he's in the showdown. Unfortunately tourney #2 saw Tom collecting his usual 3 points. Speeking of three points, Co-founder Rich Loeb laid an egg for a pair of 7th place finishes collecting a grand total of 6 points for the evening, " This is bullshit" Loeb was heard muttering under his breath as he left the building. I'm sure he's breaking open his copy of Eric Lindgren's "Winning the Final Table" . Cashing in during the evening was Wayne, Ronnie and Jeff. There was some good play all around and another great night. The next tourney is slated for Friday January 25th at 9pm. Danville has a home game against Milton that night and we will push back our start time to 9. The location for now will be at Rich Loeb's house unless somebody wants to host. Let me know if you do. I will update the points and cash leaders later in the week. I've been ultra busy and just haven't had the time.

SHOWDOWN NUMBER 2

The second Saturday Night Showdown took place on Friday at Wayne Renz's house and was once again a success. Improvements were made. A fancy blind timer was running to keep us rolling along as well as adjustments to the chip values and starting amounts. Missing from the showdown was Tom Graham. Even being absent, Tom was able to earn 6 points towards his total. the action in the first tourney was being forced by the blinds. We switched our starting blinds to 25/50 doubling every 10 minutes. I think we'll keep it the same next time except make it 15 minutes. Wayne Renz took down the first tourney in about an hour over Tom Prough. Tom took the early hit in this tourney when he flopped 2 pair only to be outdone by Rich Loeb who flopped a straight. It was quite a large hand for so early in the tourney yet Tom was able to recover. Much like snap hooking a drive into the woods only to rifle a low 3 iron out of the woods and land the green with your second shot. Tom battled back and took second while Jeff Kay finally cashed in with a 3rd place finish followed by Rich Loeb in 4th. The second tourney had the blinds change to the WPT style at 15 minute increments. This worked well and we will keep it the same for next time. Wayne exited early and took a seat on the couch. Shane had the dubious distinction of not winning a hand all night. Tom Graham won just as many hands as Shane and he wasn't even there. Rich Kozic busted out and went home. Rich Loeb went all in with a pair of tens to Jeff's AK and busted out on the bubble. Finally Jeff and Ronnie battled it out and Ronnie won for the second time collecting $80. The hand of the night was a split pot between Tom Prough and Wayne. Wayne had a full house and was raising like mad. Tom had 2 pair and was calling each raise. Tom caught the only card on the river, a queen that would also give him a full house and a split of the pot. It signaled the end for Wayne as he never sniffed another hand. All in all it was a great night of cards, food and drink. The next showdown is slated for the first Saturday night in January. Everybody needs to check their scheduals and let us know of any conflicts.

OPENING NIGHT

The first night of the Saturday Night Showdown took place saturday night and by all accounts was a tremendous success. Sometimes when you try and put something like this together there always seems to be a few things that come up that you didn't expect. Not the Showdown. The Showdown ran like a well oiled machine. The first tourney was won by the man himself Wayne Renz. Wayne took out his cousin Rich Loeb catching a 5 on the turn to take the pot and $100 first place take. Rich collected $40 while Shane gathered $20 for his 3rd place finish. Shane got off early winning a couple of early hands but it wasn't quite enough. The blinds raised pretty quickly and played a major role in the betting late in the tourney. They didn't have much effect on Tom Graham though. I think the blinds were 4/8 when he was the first to bust out. ( trivia question ). Play was spirited as several different players held the chip lead at some point. To me the first tourney was a feeling out process for everybody. The second tourney saw a little more loose action. We changed the blind intervals to 15 minutes and I think that was perfect for the 2.5 hr tourney. Once again Tom Graham busted out first and went home early. Must have had an early tee-time. And once again Rich Loeb finished 2nd losing to a pair of 5's on the turn to Ronnie " Leroy " Raup. Ronnie's the one I kinda watch out for. He's like a snake in the grass. All quiet and low key and then whack. Keep an eye on him. Ronnie took the $100 first place with Rich L second and Rich Kozic haulin' the third place $20. Rich K. got involved in some big hands towards the end before getting busted out by Rich L. I'm sure Rich K had the pot odds figured out down to the nanofraction. He's another one to keep an eye. The ironic thing about the first night is that the 3 players who probably play the most were the only players not to cash in. Tom the Pro, Tom G and Jeff Kay all went home empty handed but I'm sure that will not be the norm. They'll be there when it counts more times than not.
The next Showdown will be announced shortly. Please check in to the site and please add your comments. I had a great time and I'm sure it will only get better.
